walks, horse riding and cycle rides
Cornwall offers all kinds of walking horse riding and cycling, strenuous or relaxing, long distance or short, but always scenic. Strap on your backpack, get out there and see Cornwall close-up.
Contact the Tourist Information Centre (01637 854020) for more information or maps.
The Newquay Discovery Trail
Two walking trails, both starting at Killacourt where the Key Stone forms the starting point for both trails. Take the shorter ‘history’ trail through Newquay town, or the longer ‘myths and legends’ trail which takes you north through the Barrowfields then east for the Gannel. Watch out for the Discovery Trail slate discs. Maps are supplied free from the Tourist Information Centre.

The Cornish Way
The Cornish Way is a 180-mile route from Land's End to Bude. Much of the route follows country lanes, through attractive scenery, historic towns and fishing villages, hidden coves and windswept moorland. Highlights include the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Camel Trail. Get a map, and choose which sections you’d like to walk or cycle.

Padstow and the Camel Trail
The popular Camel Trail is a 17-mile cycle path following the line of a disused railway, running along the beautiful Camel Estuary from Padstow, through Wadebridge, on to Bodmin and to the outskirts of Bodmin Moor. Vehicles are banned and the surface is mainly smooth and level – perfect for a family day out. Cycle hire available.
Padstow is 12m / 25 min drive from Newquay

Pentewan Valley Trail A shorter version of the Camel Trail, traffic free, and level, hence particularly suitable for families. Nearly 3 miles long, past the sluice ponds, through ancient oak woodland and alongside the river. Cycle hire available.
Pentewan is near Mevagissey, 17m / 38 min drive from Newquay

Walk from Boscastle to Crackington Haven, along the coast
From the unspoilt fishing village of Boscastle there are wonderful walks in either direction along the Coast Path. Walk north to High Cliff, the highest point on the coast of Cornwall where you can look down on the Strangles. Continue to Crackington Haven, stopping for a rest on the dramatically situated beach before walking back to Boscastle. An equally glorious walk is the one west from Boscastle to Tintagel and on to Trebarwith, taking in the now ruined slate quarries. Most of this stretch of coastline is protected by the National Trust.
Boscastle is 30m / 55 min drive from Newquay
